ADDITIONAL SERVICES
PHOTOGRAPHY
Scotland's Greatest Story can photograph or video record any location you wish that may connect to your family history, subject to the obtaining of any necessary permissions from the relevant landowners beforehand.
Photographs can either be taken digitally or on film, subject to your preferences and requirements; video recordings can be made on Mini DV format and transferred to DVD in either PAL or NTSC formats.

GRAVEYARD SEARCHES
Graveyards can provide a wealth of genealogical information, and we are happy to travel to any mainland Scottish kirkyard to carry out research and/or to photograph headstones.
ENGLISH & IRISH RESEARCH
Scotland's Greatest Story is happy to carry out English and Irish research on your behalf. The methodology for this is very different to that for Scottish research, requiring the ordering of various certificates by post, and will hence take much longer to research, but it can be done.
Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
FAMILY HISTORY CHARTS
Scotland's Greatest Story is happy to recommend the services of designer and family historian Christine Welch. Through her Golden Memories family tree printing service, she offers affordable and high quality family history charts, in a range of sizes up to the British standard A0 size (seriously big!) and for as little as £10 per chart plus postage. Charts can be framed, and additional copies supplied presented in a scroll with ribbon, making a fantastic gift for other members of your family.

SURNAME DEFINITIONS
The meanings of surnames can be derived from many different sources, be they locational, descriptive, fealtic, patronymic or occupational. The root components of many names come from many of the languages used in Scotland throughout time - Latin, Brythonic Celtic (early Welsh), Scottish Gaelic or Old English (Anglo-Saxon).
Scotland's Greatest Story offers a look up service to explain the meanings of your Scottish surnames, with brief histories of their earliest known recordings.
If you are planning to visit Scotland, we can now help you to bring your ancestors stories back to life in a highly personalised way.
Acting in a consultancy role, with our local knowledge and genealogical expertise we can help you to devise a realistic schedule to achieve a variety of goals upon your visit to Scotland.
v Trace the locations and buildings where your ancestors once lived
v Visit local museums to gain an understanding of their society in their time period
v Explore the main archives to view original documents relevant to your family
v Track down the graves of those who came before you
Inevitably, the more you wish to achieve on your visit, the more you would be advised to prepare in advance to help everything pass smoothly. When will the archives be open? How do I get permission from a current owner to visit a property? Which museums will tell me what I need to know about my ancestors’ social background? Where can I watch a 19th century handloom being operated? And if I am to walk over wet fields in the Scottish mist to find my great great grandfather’s ruined croft building, just where will I get a decent pair of wellies to keep my feet dry?!!!
Scotland’s Greatest Story can fully research all of your required options prior to your visit, and can accompany you on whichever aspects of your trip that you would wish us to.
